Time Off for Voting in the Debe South Local Government Bye-Election

The Elections and Boundaries Commission is advising that the Special Polling Station established by the Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Debe South, in accordance with Election Rule 73(1) of the Representation of the People Act, Chap. 2:01 will function from MONDAY 31ST JANUARY, 2022 to SUNDAY 6TH FEBRUARY, 2022 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Notice of Taking a Poll 

Nomination Day for the Debe South Local Government Bye-Election ended with three candidates having filed nomination papers to contest the polls.

The People’s National Movement (PNM), the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) and the United National Congress (UNC) are the only political parties fielding candidates for these upcoming elections.  There will be no independent candidates vying for this seat.

The candidates are:

• LORENZO RODNEY SAMMY – (PEP)
• KHEMRAJ SUNIL SEECHARAN – (UNC)
• JUDY SOOKDEO – (PNM)

The electorate for this upcoming Bye-Election is 7,124. The Local Government Bye- Election in the Electoral District of Debe South will be held on February 7, 2022.

The Election and Boundaries Commission advises that the REVISED LIST in respect of the Debe South Local Government Bye-Election has been posted in the same two (2) locations in each polling division where the Preliminary List was posted.

Persons in State Quarantine who are eligible to vote in the February 7, 2022 Debe South Local Government Bye-Election, can apply to be treated as a Special Elector.

Interested perons can apply to the Commission to be treated as a Special Elector through the EBC’s Portal at https://portal.ebctt.com/

The Deadline date for the submission of applications in Monday 17th January, 2022
